We Owe Girls a YES Vote on Initiative 638
On Saturday, October 31st, boys' and girls' cross-country teams from WIAA Districts 3 and 4 gathered at Ft. Steilacoom Park to compete for individual and team places at the State Cross Country Meet at Pasco.
This Washington Cross Country Districts (WCD) Meet at Ft. Steilacoom was in the limelight because the Camas girl's cross-country team had a biological boy on the team. This athlete influenced the meet results which caused biological females to lose their opportunity to compete at State.
The Rules are simple. The top 49 girls and top 7 teams qualified for the State meet. Logan M. the biological male running on the Camas girls’ finished 6th earning a place at State. This pushed Kyon A.L. from Puyallup High School to number 50. She lost the opportunity to go to State.
The Camas girls' team finished 4th earning the opportunity to go to State because of Logan M. finishing in 6th place. This pushed the Puyallup High School team from 7th place to 8th place. The Puyallup girls lost the opportunity to compete at State as a team. Without Logan M., Camas High School would have finished in 7th place.
Now to put this in perspective. The Camas boys won the cross-country meet. Logan M. would not have been a part of the Camas team. He had a time of 18:49.5. He would have placed 115th in the boys’ meet. The slowest Camas male competitor finished in 56th place with a time of 17.06.7. Think about it. He would have finished over a quarter of a mile behind the Camas number 7 runner on the boys' team.
This really happened in our State. This is not a “what if” story. VOTE YES on I-638!
